Silicon carbide

Silicon carbide (SiC), also known as carbon silica, diamond grit, and refractory sand, is a refractory material made from quartz sand, petroleum coke (or coal coke), and sawdust through high-temperature smelting in a resistance furnace. It is a non-metallic carbide composed of silicon and carbon covalently bonded. Silicon carbide is divided into synthetic and natural silicon carbide. Industrially produced silicon carbide in China is divided into black silicon carbide and green silicon carbide, both of which are hexagonal crystals.

Silicon carbide has four main application areas: functional ceramics, advanced refractories, abrasives, and metallurgical raw materials.

Main Applications: Used for wire sawing of 3-12 inch single crystal silicon, polycrystalline silicon, potassium arsenide, and quartz crystals. It is also used as an engineering processing material in the solar photovoltaic, semiconductor, and piezoelectric crystal industries. Used in semiconductors, lightning rods, circuit components, high-temperature applications, UV detectors, structural materials, astronomy, disc brakes, clutches, diesel particulate filters, filament pyrometers, ceramic films, cutting tools, heating elements, nuclear fuel, jewelry, steel, protective gear, catalyst carriers and other fields.
